What Is the Circle of Fifths?
The Circle of Fifths is a visual map showing the relationships among musical keys.
Start with C Major at the top. Moving clockwise around the circle takes you through keys separated by perfect fifths and progressively adds sharps. Moving counterclockwise adds flats. Major keys are also paired with their relative minor keys, which share the same key signature.
For example:
C Major ↔ A minor — no sharps or flats
G Major ↔ E minor — 1 sharp
D Major ↔ B minor — 2 sharps
F Major ↔ D minor — 1 flat
